Mario Kart 9: The majority of Mario Kart fans had hoped for an exciting new game for the series to be revealed at the latest Nintendo Direct.
Nintendo instead declared that the latest Mario Kart game within the series would rather receive 48 new tracks in a new DLC.
A few fans were dissatisfied with this; however, there is a leak to shed light on the issue.
The Mario Kart 9 hype train seemed to be quickly scuttled following an event called the Nintendo Direct on February 9 because Nintendo did not mention an upcoming entry in the series.
Many fans had expected this to be the case, following various reports suggesting that Mario Kart 9 was going to be announced at the event.
Instead of a brand new title, Nintendo has announced Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will receive 48 brand new tracks.
Nintendo also announced they would release it will be releasing the Mario Kart 8 DeluxeBooster Course Pass will be available in six phases up to 2023.
The first wave features Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii, Choco Mountain from Mario Kart 64, Tokyo Blur from Mario Kart Tour, and five additional tracks that are not yet known.
The DLC will be available through an expansion of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion.
Many fans were under the impression Mario Kart 9 was never even being developed; however, the famed Nintendo leaker Zippo says otherwise.
Zippo asserts that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass is being designed through Bandai Namco while a new Mario Kart game is developing.
Zippo is also claiming that they will provide more details regarding the issue soon.
This could mean that reports claiming to have information on Mario Kart 9 could be entirely accurate.
Certain rumors provided details about the possible changes to gameplay that could be made in the sequel.
A few examples are players from different IP’s such as Star Fox, Pikmin, The Legend of Zelda, and Kid Icarus being added to the roster with coins being replaced entirely, with smaller and large box sizes and are believed to have more robust and less powerful items, as well as players having only one item slot.
This information is positive for the upcoming Mario Kart game; however, it’s unlikely to be announced until the entirety of the DLC available for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is released.
For now, players can take advantage of the Booster Course Pass DLC online for free because they will be able to play without paying for the DLC to enjoy the new tracks in online multiplayer.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now available for Nintendo Switch.
