Yelp features COVID-19 vaccine status to business listings

Yelp features COVID-19 vaccine status to business listings.

Yelp is adding details to the listings, so users can see which COVID-19 guidelines companies have implemented.

Starting Thursday, Yelp users can filter businesses based on two new attributes: “Proof of vaccination required” and “All staff fully vaccinated,” the app announced.

Yelp plans to proactively monitor the pages of companies that add these attributes to avoid potential adverse reactions.

“Yelp’s content guidelines require that all reviews will base on first-hand consumer experience:” said, Noorie Malik. She is Yelp’s vice president of operations.

“However, in recent weeks, we have seen an increase in reviews focused on people’s stance on COVID vaccines rather than their experience with the business.”

Yelp said that whenever a business experiences unusual activity on its list, such as a “review barrage,” a coordinated effort to post negative reviews to lower its rating.

Meanwhile, Yelp will temporarily disable the post and place an alert until the activity subsides.

Yelp companies can detail services such as mask requirements and whether all staff wears masks.

As the delta variant of the coronavirus spreads, governments and companies have pushed for stricter vaccination demands. Companies like Facebook and United Airlines demand their workers to get the vaccine before joining the office.
