The many gaming events scheduled for June 2022 seem to be slowing down. At a third-party/PSVR2 State of Play, Summer Game Fest, Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, Capcom Showcase, Assassin’s Creed anniversary event, Dragon’s Dogma anniversary event, and Final Fantasy 7-anniversary event, fans were treated to fresh new revelations and trailers. It’s been a hectic month.
Although the trip has slowed, it may not be done yet. Many fans had hoped for a Nintendo Direct and the first-party State of Play event to round off the month, and it seems like both are on the way.
Nintendo has scheduled a new Direct on June 22 that will solely focus on Xenoblade Chronicles 3, while Sony is said to be organizing a State of Play event for the following week.
This material comes from Tom Henderson, a well-known insider; nevertheless, it should be noted that this is more of a splicing together known facts than a report. For various reasons, Henderson feels a State of Play might take place next week.
First and foremost, Sony is likely to unveil new hardware shortly, including a PS5 Pro controller, and a State of Play might be an excellent venue for doing so.
Second, the Gran Turismo producer recently announced that a new game update would be released “next week,” but Henderson points out that he said this on a Sunday.
This makes it unclear whether he meant June 20-24 or June 27-July 1, although the latter is the more reasonable response. All of this is encouraging, but there’s one more piece of evidence that solidifies the story.
Last, Henderson cites Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier’s rumour that God of War: Ragnarok will be released in November. According to two of his sources, the date will be announced later this month.
Sony may provide three semi-related updates on first-party games and gear in the following days/weeks, but Henderson is correct in his assessment that a State of Play event is imminent.
God of War: Ragnarok is now one of the most anticipated games of the autumn season. Kratos’ Norse story is coming to a close, and fans anticipate a massive, dramatic conclusion.
Because this is Sony’s largest game schedule for the autumn, it would make sense to reveal it at the first-party State of Play, but for now, fans should regard this as a rumour and take it with a grain of salt. Regardless, there are just a few days left in the month to prove this true or wrong.
