The news came out today. Sony announced that they intend to acquire Bungie for approximately $3.6 billion.

After the deal is complete, the studio will become an affiliate that is part of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony has stated the company will be multiplatform, dispelling rumors of games being only available for PlayStation consoles.

SIE Chairman and CEO Jim Ryan had the following to declare about the partnership: “We’ve had a strong partnership with Bungie since the inception of the Destiny franchise, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome the studio to the PlayStation family officially.”

In the blog post, Bungie outlined their plans under Sony.

Bungie has announced that they will be independent, and the games they develop will remain multi-platform.

The news is shocking for many because Bungie was previously closely associated with Microsoft due to their connection with the Halo franchise.
