Those who do bad things see WhatsApp users as easy marks. They are trying to fool WhatsApp users by imitating the title of a well-known movie to get their attention.
A new scam has been found in which people are being directed to fake websites that say they can download the popular Kashmir Files movie for free. If you click on this link, your phone could get malware and other problems because you are putting it at risk.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ranvijay Singh has explained why this new WhatsApp scam is so dangerous.
Singh said that if customers click on the bogus link, they won’t get the Kashmir Files video. Instead, hackers will be able to hijack phones and empty bank accounts linked to the phone number.
According to Singh, there have been no cases in India yet in which the movie’s name has been used. “But there are reports that conmen have used this method to hack into people’s phones or dupe them out of money,” he said.
He said that some people had lost money because they clicked on a few links sent to them through WhatsApp.
These links pretended to be places where you could watch free Kashmir Files movie streaming.
Three people came to the police from a single cop station in 24 hours with the same cyber fraud charge, and they lost a total of $30,000.
Here’s how to stay safe
According to police, WhatsApp users should not click on links posted on the app or social media. If the connection is shared by someone who isn’t known, it could be even more dangerous than before.
Even if a well-known person shares the link, the user should first check with that person to make sure the connection is real.
During the early 1990s, Kashmiri Pandits fled the valley. The movie Kashmir Files is based on this story. The film has been praised by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other important people.
