It’s already shaping up to be a major year for 4K TV tech. A range of stunning, exciting screens is already on the market or available for pre-order.

Last year, 2021, was undoubtedly the year of the OLED TV, bringing ultra-sharp picture quality, bold color range, and an ultra-thin design to the market.

These screens are the perfect companions to the latest generation of consoles; the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with terrific refresh rates and gaming modes for the smoothest 4K gameplay imaginable. But what’s the best TV for your budget?

Neo-QLED

In March, Samsung released the QN95B, a Neo QLED TV. Neo QLED, if you were wondering, is essentially an even sharper image from the original QLED, the tiny LEDs in a regular QLED are replaced with even tinier LEDs, giving you potentially the best image quality money can buy right now.

Alongside its impeccable image quality, the QN95B is also packed with powerful hardware, such as a Neural Quantum 4K processor which enhances and upscales anything you watch automatically, whether it’s football or the news.

With a 144 Hz refresh rate, anti-glare features, and a plethora of QOL add-ons, this is going to be a tough TV to top this year.

Mini LED’s

Also finding their way into homes this year are Mini-LED TVs that are similar in premise to the Neo QLED; smaller LEDs mean better image quality and deeper colors. The major difference, however, is that Mini-LED TVs are far cheaper than OLED TVs, yet they still offer a fantastic image.

LG has just released a stunning 55” QNED 4K TV loaded with a great sound system, Quantum Dot tech, and more for a brilliant price.

What about later this year?

Samsung, Sony, and a ton of major 4K TV manufacturers are set to release a series of QD OLED TVs this year, yes that’s right; Quantum Dot OLED TVs.

But what does this mean for picture quality, you might ask? Well, primarily, it means users will get to experience a gorgeous combination of the sharpest OLED image, and the richest QD color range, offering essentially unparalleled image quality.

Picking a TV that’s right for you

Right now, the 4K TV market is packed with amazing, and not-so-amazing options, so it can be difficult to know what’s best for you and your budget. There’s no clear winner as to what’s better; OLED or QLED.

QLEDs generally have better color ranges but have far worse refresh rates, so if you’re looking to do some gaming, we’d suggest you stick with OLED screens.

While neither OLED nor QLED is energy efficient, OLED TVs are considerably more efficient than QLED, which is definitely worth considering with rising energy bills this year.

If, however, price is no object, then it might be worth pre-ordering Samsung’s S95B 4K TV, which has both Quantum Dot and OLED technology.
