How to Use TikTok in India After Ban? [Detailed Guide]

The Govt. of India has banned TikTok along with 58 other Chinese apps on 29 June 2020. However, a lot of users still want to use TikTok in India to move their data or to get the one last ride. There can be several more reasons why you still want to use it. If you are one of the users who want to do it, this post will tell you how you can do that.

Here, I will guide you on how to use TikTok in India after the ban. Remember that by doing this you’ll be violating the orders issued by your Government. Hence, it is not advisable by any measure and you shouldn’t do it regularly.

Why is TikTok Banned in India?

TikTok is a wildly popular short-video platform where users shared and watched 15-second videos. The majority of the videos on the app consisted of teens lip-syncing over songs, dancing, or random skits. There were some good sorts of videos like life hacks, cooking recipes, and how-to videos available on TikTok. The reason why TikTok was banned in India was that it is owned and operated by the Chinese firm ByteDance.

The Government of India announced on 29 June 2020 that they are banning 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, in India over concerns that these apps are engaging in activities that threaten “National Security and Defense of India” and this eventually affects the sovereignty and integrity of India. This came after the face-off between India and China over the LAC (Line of Actual Control in Galwan Valley, Ladakh. That’s why TikTok is now banned in India.

What type of Ban is imposed on TikTok in India?

TikTok is going to be banned from the application stores and its servers will be banned. It is going to be removed from both the Play Store and App Store. And, you won’t be able to access it even if it is already installed on your device. Google and Apple have already received copies of the Government order and they have removed the 59 apps from the Play Store as well as from the App Store. So, you can’t download TikTok on your smartphone now. Even if you already have it, you won’t be able to update it further.

Also, the TikTok users have received a ‘User Notice’ that says that the TikTok app is going to stop working due to complying with the Government of India’s directive.

The app has now stopped working in the country. It is showing ‘no network connection’ despite the users having working internet. This is achieved with the help of TSP (Telecom Service Provider) and ISP (Internet Service Provider) like Airtel, Jio, etc.

Will TikTok be Unbanned Soon in India?

There are slight chances that TikTok might stand a chance against the ban. TikTok India has responded with a public statement to the news of ban implemented on TikTok. Here is what they have said.

*UPDATE* Use TikTok in India Without VPN

We have found a way to use TikTok in India even after the ban without needing the VPN. This method will help you to use the TikTok app and you won’t have to use the website. You will need the following things in order to apply this method:

Use the above links only to download all the 3 APK files. Once you have these, follow these steps below.

Step-1: Install Virtual Xposed on your smartphone and launch it. Grant it all the necessary permissions.

Step-2: Tap on the ‘six dots circle‘ present at the bottom center of the screen.

Step-3: Now tap on ‘Add app.’

Step-4: Next, switch to ‘Internat Shared Storage,’ select the Lataclys Xposed Module apk file and TikTok apk file and install them in Virtual Xposed.

Step-5: After installing, go back to the Virtual Xposed home screen and swipe up. Now tap on Lataclysm and let it load.

Step-6: Once it loads, tap on PackageName.

Then, tap on TikTok’s package name to copy it.

Step-7:  Now go back and tap on Settings.

Step-8: Paste the package name you copied in Task 1 ‘PackageName.’ Next, select LosAngeles.US as ‘Location’ from the list. Then, enter ‘google’ in Task 2 ‘PackageName’ and select New York.US as ‘Location.’

The Settings MUST look like the snapshot above for TikTok to work.

Step-9: Come back to the Xposed Module home screen, tap on the ‘six-dots circle‘, and tap on the ‘Manage Xposed Module.’

Step-10: Check the box present next to Lataclysm.

Step-11: Now again come back to the Xposed Module home screen, tap on the ‘six-dots circle‘, and tap on ‘Reboot.’

Step-12: Swipe up the Xposed Module home screen, long-press on TikTok, and tap on ‘Create Shortcut.’

After that, tap on TikTok to launch it.

That’s it. You can now use TikTok without needing a VPN. Make sure you provide Virtual Xposed the permissions to ‘Run in the background‘ in order to use TikTok at all times.

Using VPN On Mobile

Google has banned TikTok in India on the Android OS. So, you can’t simply connect a VPN, change your IP, and use the TikTok app. That wouldn’t work. You’ll have to do something else. Follow these simple steps to know what you have to do.

Step-1 Go to the Play Store and download Kiwi VPN. You can also use other VPNs like Hotspot Shield, SoloVPN, or any other you like.

Step-2: After the successful installation, launch the VPN, and connect to the USA or Singapore server.

Step-3: Once connected, minimize the Kiwi VPN app, and launch a browser (Chrome, Opera, etc). Now visit TikTok.com in it.

Note: You have to visit TikTok’s website in a browser and not launch the TikTok app. The TikTok app is banned by ISP, so it is not going to work no matter what VPN you are using.

Step-4: Just tap on ‘Watch Now’ and start using TikTok.

That’s it. You can also log in to your account and download or move your content from TikTok. Or, you can do whatever you want until the VPN is connected.

Using VPN Extension On Computer

There is one more way to use TikTok in India after the ban by using your computer. Follow these simple steps to know how to do that.

Step-1: Open Chrome browser on your PC and visit the Chrome Web Store. Now add the SetupVPN Chrome Extension in the browser.

Step-2: After adding the SetupVPN extension, click on the Extension icon from the top right-side bar. Next, sign up for an account with SetupVPN using your email account. After that, connect to the USA server.

Step-3: Once connected, visit TikTok.com (TikTok’s official website). Once it loads completely, click on ‘Watch Now.’

Step-4: Now you can use TikTok on your PC. You can also log in with your account, or watch videos, and do whatever you want.

That’s it. This is how you can use TikTok in India on your PC.

Final Words

TikTok was one of the most used apps for a lot of people in India until the government banned it. This is how you can use TikTok in India even after the ban. You can do that for transitioning into the ‘without TikTok’ life. I wouldn’t recommend using TikTok in this manner as you are bypassing the government’s law and policy. Instead, you can use some good TikTok Alternatives if you really miss it.
