After showcasing some of its much-anticipated forthcoming hardware products, like the Pixel 6a and a new Pixel tablet, at Google I/O 2022, the firm has teamed up with Samsung to build a new Health Connect API for Android.
It will mainly serve as a central location for all health and fitness data, synchronizing across numerous Android devices.

What is the New Health Connect API from Google and Samsung?
Google unveiled the Health Connect Platform and APIs, allowing developers to use a single set to build health and fitness-related experiences for consumers at the I/O 2022 event.
Now that Google is entering the fitness market with the Pixel Watch, the firm wants to increase health-data synchronization across Android devices to build a more Apple-like environment.
The announcement, Samsung recently announced its new Health Connect API for developers in an official blog post.
The Korean conglomerate said that it collaborates with Google and other partners to develop the platform further and reach its full potential.
“We’re ecstatic that Samsung and Google are collaborating on a new solution, Health Connect, to meet this demand.” Users will have a complete set of controls to manage their health and fitness data across applications with the new Health Connect API,” writes TaeJong Jay Yang, Samsung’s EVP and Head of Health R&D Team.
Developers will be able to use the Health Connect API to provide a seamless synchronization experience for health data across applications and devices.
Developers will be able to compile a user’s health data in a single encrypted hub after they opt into the experience.
Users will have complete choice over what health information is shared and with whom.
They’ll also be able to share detailed health data with one app over others on their devices, manage linked applications, and access or refuse permission settings for the apps.
This information will be synchronized across all of their Android devices, including smartwatches and tablets.
The Health Connect API, according to Samsung, covers over 50 data types across numerous categories, including body measurement, diet, exercise, cycle-tracking, sleep, and vitals.
Availability
Health Connect is now available in open beta for Android developers in terms of availability. Furthermore, as part of an early access program, Google and Samsung collaborate with health-focused companies like MyFitnessPal, Withings, and Leap Fitness to provide Health Connect functionality to their platforms.
In addition, Google Fit and Fitbit devices will soon support the technology. As a result, by the time Google publishes its Pixel Watch later this year, it should be accessible worldwide.
