Just Cause Developer Developing Medieval Action Game

Avalanche Studios Group, not to be confused with Avalanche Software, the creator of the forthcoming Hogwarts Legacy, is the studio behind games like Rage 2 and the Just Cause series. The Avalanche Studios Group is recognized for producing quality and enjoyable games that are underestimated.

According to reports, Avalanche Studios Group is working on several titles, including the fifth installment in its most successful series, Cause, and Contraband, an open-world co-op game alongside Xbox Game Studios.

However, according to a recent leak, Avalanche Studios Group is purportedly working on a new game codenamed “Jackdaw.” Ravenbound: Tales of Avalt is the game’s proper name, and it will be a brand-new IP for the studio in a new genre.

The fantasy game will be a roguelike, a genre that is gaining popularity in the wake of recent high-profile roguelike hits like Hades and Returnal.

Shawn Weber disclosed the game’s development and a lot of information about the game itself on Twitter. According to reports, the game would take place in Avalt, a medieval fantasy kingdom where the player will be responsible for protecting it from attackers.

The player may play as one of three Vessels of the Raven, each with various stats and weaponry that can be customized with trait cards that are not lost when the player dies.

Roguelike games depend on the ability to reuse a limited number of objects and opponent kinds, which are reshuffled randomly every time the player is slain.

Because of this, some roguelike games don’t have a narrative mode, while others, like 2021’s Returnal, have managed to weave this procedural feature into a captivating plot. Ravenbound’s storyline will be revealed later, as well if the game will be a continual quest of cathartic fighting.

Shawn Weber compared the game to an open-world Dead Cells, a roguelike game that focuses more on battle mechanics than plot.

Ravenbound will also apparently have a feature that allows the player to observe the environment via the eyes of a soaring raven, similar to the ability introduced to the Assassin’s Creed series in AC Origins.

The game will reportedly contain in-game cash and loot box mechanics, a system many players already despise, with some notable gamers even suggesting that loot boxes be declared illegal. However, it’s unclear if Ravenbound will leverage these dynamics significantly.
