Hey guys, I am Shamik, and in this big picture of excellence, there is one issue that keeps it from being the right choice for everyone. And today we’re going to talk about that.
Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 Review
Let’s come to the main point of the Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 Review. Is it the best wireless gaming headset in 2020? Let’s check it out.
Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4: In-box Contains
Opening the box, you get greeted by a welcome card that shines in multiple colors. Then we get to some manuals, a hard carrying case that feels very high quality. It also comes with a pocket on the back, which can be helpful. Inside we get this braided 3.5mm cable because you can also use this in wired mode. Then we get a USB cable for charging, the detachable microphone, a USB A to USB C adapter.
You will get a receiver for the headphone which we will talk about later. And finally, we get to the headphones. I have the electro-punk version of the Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 wireless gaming headset, so it has these pink colors and translucent plastic. But the regular variant comes in the usual black color.
The Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 wireless gaming headset has won an IF design award, and it is easy to see why. It is one of the most well-thought-out designs that I have seen in a wireless gaming headset. Every part of this headphone’s design is so good that you wouldn’t think a proper headphone brand didn’t make it. The headband cushion is excellent. The earcups swivel to 90 degrees so you can rest them on your chest while not using them.
The earpads are very soft. They have a fantastic shape with these long earcups that are very comfortable while still being compact because the human ear-shaped like that. You have to look closely to realize what level of attention to detail makes it the best gaming headset. The clicky metal headband adjustment has the ROG logo printed on it. And even the earcups have rubber pads in the places they make contact with the headband. The subtle ROG logos on the earcups also integrate well with the aesthetics without overdoing it.
Next to the power switch on the headphone, you have a multifunction button that you can use to play pause and change tracks. Then, you have the volume rocker. You have to hold it up or down to increase or decrease volume. If you press it inside, it will mute the mic. A dedicated button to mute the mic would have been better. But this system also works fine. The comfort is good with the nicely shaped earpads with lovely memory foam. But it can get a little hot because of how airtight of a seal it forms around your ears.
However, a character that I frequently observe is headphones with pleather pads and memory foam. The earpads on Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 wireless gaming headphone also don’t seem removable. I am not going to make a big deal out of this because most gaming headsets don’t have removable earpads. But every premium headset should have removable earpads, whether it is made for gaming or not.
As the name suggests, the Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 works with a 2.4 GHz wireless connection. It comes with this USB Type-C dongle that you will have to connect with whatever you want to use. The advantage of this is that unlike something with a Bluetooth connection, you won’t be facing any latency issues critical for gaming. It has a USB type C port, and you can use this with your PC, laptop, Nintendo switch, your phone. You can use it even with iPhones and iPads if you are okay with living a dongle life.
Meanwhile, people have asked me for the best wireless gaming headset to use for PUBG Mobile for a long time. So this will be good. You can use it in a wired mode by plugging the cable in, and this headphone also comes in a wired version. The microphones on this are a massive highlight. And I say microphones because there are 2 of them. So you do have a detachable boom mic, which is easily adjustable.
But you may often forget to have it plugged in, or you might be using this with your phone without having it plugged. So for that, Asus has included an inbuilt microphone, which is a fantastic idea. And the inbuilt microphone on the headphone sounds pretty good for an in-built microphone.
However, the boom mic on these headphones is very extraordinary because it includes Asus AI Noise cancellation. And when I first heard about it, I just thought it was a gimmick. I was blown away by how well it worked when I tried it. No doubt, Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 is the best wireless gaming headset in 2021.
However, the boom microphone sounds are perfect, and you can hear that it sounds pretty decent. I have checked the mic by playing music on my phone at full volume, and the loudness of the mic is just awesome. It was rejecting the noise from such a loud source that’s close to it.
The inbuilt mic doesn’t reject sound as well as this because it has to pick up your voice from a distance. So for regular kinds of noises that you have around, this should work exceptionally well. Suppose you’re in a gaming cafe where many people are shouting, then the Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 wireless gaming headset is able to reject that noise well, which is kind of a big deal.
The battery life on Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 Wireless Gaming headset is around 25 hours. They also work if you keep them plugged in with a charger while using them. They also support fast charging with 15 minutes of charge, providing 3 hours. So you really should not face any issues with battery life. Sound Quality: Best Wireless Gaming Headset
Coming to sound quality, I think this is the best budget wireless gaming headset. The soundstage and imaging on these are more beautiful than the cheap gaming headsets that I have tried. You will feel a perfect sense of movement when things go from left to right, or when there is action going on at a distance in a game. But these have a very treble emphasized sound signature. And it’s almost like they just pushed the treble frequencies up by 4 or 5 decibels. So for music and general non-gaming use, I didn’t like Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4.
Suppose you listen to classical music that is treble-heavy on these headphones, then your ears will probably start hurting. They do have high-quality drivers. Even with the emphasized treble, you don’t feel a sense of piercing sound on your eardrums. The boost in the treble is so high that you can feel the pressure of the higher frequencies on your eardrums. It is not a comfortable feeling, though.
You can tone it down by using similar equalizer settings like these. You have to reduce the treble by four or six decibels, and then it manages to sound decent for music. Even then I wasn’t able to make it look right. One quality I have noticed is that, though the treble boosted, the gunshots sound tolerable. But if you are playing something that has a lot going on in the high end, you could find it to be fatiguing.
If you are a bass head, then Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 will not be for you. Even for people who like balanced bass, I think these don’t lack them by a decibel or two. It is also an issue that I wasn’t able to correct with the equalizer. So while these should be good for gaming.
However, it is the best wireless gaming headset, especially for people who like a treble-heavy sound signature. And this is because it helps them in hearing the footsteps more easily. I also asked this question in audiophile groups that I am a member of. Most people did share similar thoughts as me on this subject of the sound signature that is better for gaming. But I also had very vocal responses from some people who said that they like treble-emphasized headphones for gaming.
Some said they find high-treble headphones to provide better clarity in your footsteps and voices. So you will have to know what you want. You could also let me know in the comments section about what kind of sound signature you like for gaming.

In conclusion, I have slightly mixed feelings about Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 headphones. I love how well it is made, the attention to detail that it has. I like how it looks, the microphone works exceptionally well, and the second internal microphone is just a genius idea. Battery life is excellent, comfort is superb, and it is just a headphone that executed very well. These cost around 200 US Dollars. I think these do have enough technology and quality to justify the price.
The sound is something that I do not agree with as a person who mostly reviews audiophile gear. I have gamer friends who also share similar thoughts about how gaming headphones should sound. But some people like this high treble sound signature, and for those people, these are going to be the best wireless gaming headset under 200 USD. But if you like a balanced sound in a headphone, or if you want to enjoy the sharp bass lines in music or movies, these are not going to be the ones for you. Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 Wireless Gaming headphones are strictly built for gaming purposes only.
Generally, I don’t care a lot about a product if it has a character that I don’t like. Asus ROG Strix GO 2.4 just does everything else so well for being the best gaming headset under 200. I feel a little sad that the sound signature is not more versatile. Non-removable earpads at this price range are also not a good thing. So I’ll have links to buy this below, which you can go through if you like to purchase it.
