Nintendo will shut down the 3DS and Wii U eShops in 2023

3DS and Wii U eShops: Game preservation is a crucial problem for many gamers because digital storefronts are the way they purchase their most loved games.

The problem is that when a game is bought online, it’s not accepted.

The game you purchased is a license to use the games.

The game could be taken away at any time by a company such as Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. The process has already begun, as Nintendo is closing down the Wii U and 3DS eShops.

Nintendo Will Not Offer Classic Games Without a Paywall

In a blog post yesterday, the company made it clear that they will be closing both eShops until the end of March 2023.

The shutting down will start on May 23, 2022, the day that credit cards won’t be accepted for both eShops.

In August 2022, Nintendo eShop gift cards are no longer available on either of the eShops.

This will stop new purchases; however, according to Nintendo, the company, you’ll be able to download and play content that you already own:

“Even after the end of March 2023 and into the next few years, it will remain feasible to download games and DLC. You will also be able to receive updates for software and play online games with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles.”

Despite Microsoft’s attempts to make the backward compatible, companies such as Nintendo haven’t achieved the similar.

A report from Kotaku provides evidence that the shutdown agreement contained an FAQ section.

The FAQ section informs players concerned about buying repurchases of games they have previously played with their Wii U or 3DS that they’ll need to purchase a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

The section ended with the following words: At present, we do not have any plans to provide classic content in different ways.

This statement is no longer on Nintendo’s website. Nintendo website.

If you’re interested in purchasing something digitally to Nintendo’s Wii U or 3DS, now is the time to buy.
